K. International School ~International Water Day

March 21 School Assembly : Together We Make a Difference

Friday morning on March 21 was no ordinary day at K. International School in Tokyo, Japan (www.kist.ed.jp). School Principal Ms. Sasha Marshall, understanding the importance of International Water Day, convened an all school assembly on Friday morning, March 21, 2008. The assembly was held to help students recognize the true importance that water plays in their lives and throughout the world. A discussion including slides and student presentations provided ideas and a forum to show how simple acts and changes in behavior can help safeguard one of the world's most precious commodities, clean water. Students also began to understand some of the challenges that families in other countries may face when they do not have reliable access to clean water. Joining in the event were students whose age ranged from Kindergarten to High School.

An important part of this event was a 100 yen (about $1.00) collection drive among the students and faculty which raised 47,350 yen (about $438) in donations to be given to Kasumisou Foundation to use to fund 2 water wells in Prey Veng Cambodia. Any remaining money will be combined with other funds for well drilling to use at a later date. Our sincere thanks to Ms. Marshall for her support and for parent Ms. Susan Juge Simpson for her efforts in organizing and coordinating the event.
