Summer Arts Camp 2010 Concludes
September 27, 2010
Our Summer Arts Camp 2010 finished with a graduation performance and party on September 25th and an outing to Udong Mountain on September 26th. Last year, about 70 children, most of whom are AIDS patients from the city orphanage or from a hospice for AIDS afflicted orphaned and abandoned children outside of Phnom Penh, participated in our Summer Arts Camp. In addition to the children from those two institutions, about 15 children from our FSP program also joined in this fun summer program.
For the past three summer the AAA school has invited approximately 70 children from the Phnom Penh city orphanage and an AIDS hospice for children located outside of the city to participate in our annual Summer Arts Camp (SAC). For children from these two underfunded institutions, the change to "go outside of the walls" for daily classes and the opportunity to interact with other children from outside their institutions is a real treat.
Out eight week Summer Arts Camp program takes place during the annual school holiday period in August and September. The program concentrates on training in traditional dance and music and during the final week there is an outing for the students and a graduation party including performances by all of the SAC graduates. Nearly all of the orphaned children who participate in our Summer Arts Camp are afflicted by AIDS and this program is the highlight of their summer holidays.
